IPA is a clear, colourless, highly volatile liquid with a rather pungent odour. It possesses a low boiling point, a high rate of evaporation, and high solvent power.
IPA is used across all industries as a solvent, defoamer, and disinfectant. IPA can be used to clean machinery and equipment in industrial sites, including for food processes so long as they are rinsed with potable water before use.
IPA is a solvent for epoxy and acrylic resins, ethyl cellulose, natural resins and many essential oils.
IPA finds applications in paints and lacquers, adhesives, nail polish and nail polish remover, electronics cleaning and dewatering, as a clean-up solvent for fibreglassing, and as a “spotting” solution for dry cleaners and garment manufacturers.
